But the word “planificar” is also used to describe the verb to plan, while the verb “planear” also indicated the same, but when talking about planning and want to use a more formal and strong word, its “planificar”

4)”Embarazada” which means in English “pregnant” for example saying “I am pregnant” in Spanish is “Estoy embarazada”

5) “Tampón” which means “tampon”, so saying “Sweetheart, will you buy me some tampons when you go to the supermarket” in Spanish, you would say “Amor, me compras tampones cuando te vayas al supermercado.”

6) “Aborto” which is similar to its English word, which is “abortion” for example, “En Colombia, el aborto es ilegal” means “In Colombia, abortion is illegal.”

7)”Ovular” which is “to ovulate” In English, so by saying “Cuando las hembras y las mujeres ovulan están listas para reproducirse” it means “When female animals and women ovulate they are ready to reproduce” in English.

8)”Trimestre” which means in English “trimester” so if you want to say that “The first trimester of pregnancy can be very difficult for the future mother” in Spanish, it is “El primer trimestre del embarazo puede ser muy difícil para la futura mama”

9)” Pastillas anticonceptivas” which means in English “birth control pills” so by saying “La mujer dice “se me olvidó tomar la pastilla anticonceptiva” you are saying “The woman said “I forgot to take my birth control pill.”

And while I was in the that class, the teacher in the class asked the English speakers if one of them would like to take the chance and say what he did in the preterit tense in Spanish, and state what he did this morning, things like eating breakfast, taking a shower, leaving for work and other morning activities, and not being afraid of making mistakes, I raised my hands fast and volunteered to do this task before any other Gringo could grab that chance, so I stood and started speaking, I wanted to say “ I washed myself with soap” so I said “Me bañé con sopa”, but I made a huge mistake, as I wrongly thought that soap is “sopa” in Spanish, but the real word was “jabón” while “sopa” in Spanish meant soup. And of course, this mistake made all of the Spanish speakers engage in a frenzy of laughter and jokes, they were cracking jokes like this fellow washes himself in soup, they don’t have soap so they use soup, etc…

But after this hilarious situation and after the laughter stopped, one of them kindly told me the correct word which is “jabón” and not “sopa”, so I tried to tell the class that I was embarrassed by this mistake, but boy was I wrong, as all I did was to embarrass myself even more, as I tried to say “I am embarrassed” so I said “estoy muy embarazado” thinking that “embarazado” means “embarrassed” but the sentence “Estoy embarazado” doesn’t mean “I’m embarrassed”, it means “I’m pregnant” so what I basically told the class is, “I am very pregnant”, and this started an even louder and bigger laughing frenzy throughout the class, and then I learned that the correct phrase for saying “I am embarrassed” is “Tengo vergüenza.” But even after these incidents, I never let them affect me, or make me shy to speak Spanish in front of them, as learning can only come by making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. So never let your mistakes hold you back from learning.

Back to the topic and the whole embarazado issue, it grabbed my attention that the natives in Colombia don’t say “Estoy embarazada, ella está embarazada” to say that “I am pregnant” and “She is pregnant” but they say “Estoy en embarazo” and “Ella está en embarazo” and I also noticed that they don’t say “vergüenza Tengo” to say “I am embarrassed” but they say “it gives me shame” which when said in Spanish is “me da pena”, in other countries that speaks Spanish, I noticed that they say “me da vergüenza” which also means “I am embarrassed”.
